Rosso, Arancione, Giallo e….. Bianco

My absolute favorite activity for the first six months had been putting on old clothes just to wear them around the house. On the good days I’d find forgotten banknotes in the pockets. The six months after that I was content to find even coins. The first March was achingly lonely but the second March caused me to freeze and stand silently when the postal carrier rang the bell. She’s a very nice woman but she only ever brought bills that I couldn’t pay. A few times we locked eyes through the window, both of us knowing that we were both doing all that we could.

Last night I met a friend for drinks. We didn’t wear masks. We kissed cheeks when we meet and sat with our faces so close that I could smell the rosè on her breath. I kissed cheeks with nine people during the evening, nine more than I had in the last 18 months.

This morning the region of Puglia was cleared ‘bianca’-white- the last colour code for Covid, the one where life returns to normal. Europe is now open to tourism and non-Europeans can now visit as well.

For those that paid to watch our Saturday night show this last year, please know what it means to us to know that you cared enough to support us, especially as we fumbled with cameras, software and wire cables.

So, we are open again. As a school, as a region, as a country, a continent and even to my postal carrier, who’d i’d kiss if she’s let me, everytime she brings me… only junk mail.

Oh, by the way, we’re white.

oh, and the staff is vaccinated.
